Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbs, like Acupuncture, are an essential component of Traditional Chinese Medicine and have been used safely and effectively for thousands of years. Chinese herbs are safe, gentle and, unlike modern pharmaceutical drugs, rarely elicit side effects. Acupuncturists are trained and licensed to diagnose and prevent disease with herbal medicine and to know when it is safe to combine herbal medicine with pharmaceutical drugs a patient may be taking. Willamette Acupuncture and Wellness only uses the highest quality herbal and nutritional supplements that have been tested extensively for potency and are free of all contaminants.

Cupping and GuaSha

Cupping and GuaSha (pronounced Gwaa-shaw) are both effective Chinese medical techniques commonly used to treat pain. When muscles are unhealthy and imbalanced, the muscle fibers do not function properly and chemical byproducts of cellular metabolism build up and stagnate in the muscle causing stiffness, tightness and pain. Cupping and GuaSha treat this problem by increasing blood flow, promoting lymphatic drainage, and helping the body clear out metabolic waste that is trapped in muscle tissue.

E-STIM Acupuncture

E-STIM acupuncture involves applying a mild electrical stimulation to inserted acupuncture needles. The needles are attached by a wire to a machine that emits a low-frequency pulsing current. It is used when a stronger and more consistent stimulation of the acupuncture needles is required, and is effective in treating many pain disorders.

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture

Auricular acupuncture involves needling of the ear to effect change in a patient’s condition. There are over 200 ear acupuncture points that correspond to different body parts, organs, and body functions. Auricular acupuncture is best known for its psycho-emotional effects and focuses on treating addiction disorders, smoking cessation, PTSD, alcoholism, drug addiction, and weight loss.

TuiNa (Chinese Medical Massage)

TuiNa (pronounced twee-nah) is a form of medical massage that aims to break up stagnation in acupuncture channels, re-establish balance and increase circulation. TuiNa can help increase range of motion, release deep muscle tension and alleviate pain.
